Simply rules for happiness
Simple things make me happy and the less complicated I keep things in life is the key to my happiness. Last weekend I made a small picnic, packed each of our rucksacks and set off along the lanes and forest tracks to Brockweir. Brockweir is a lovely village built on a rather steep hill which winds down to the river Wye. And every year they host the Brake for the Border Soapbox Derby. People put a lot of work into creating spectacular carts in order to speed down the hill towards the Wye as fast as possible. Which is great to see and funny too, as some of the designs definitely had a touch of humour, not lost on us spectators as we clapped and cheered our support. And when the competition was over and the carts and their pilots were towed back up the hill, we slowly made our way home. Back along the tracks and across the fields, on a lovely sunny day packed with simple pleasures. My perfectly simple day. You see happiness is a state of mind it's not complicated it's simply the ability to:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less, enjoy every moment
I often struggle with rule #2 as I seem to worry a lot about my son. And trying to juggle work and chauffeuring to the many after school activities isn’t always simply. However when I get most of the rules right I’m a happy person.
